SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS IN PSYCHIATRY

1.       Alternations of Personality and Behavior: Individuals thinking, Feeling and Behavior.
2.       Alterations of Biological Functions: Sleep, Appetite, Activity and Sexual functions.
3.       Disorders of Consciousness:
o   Quantitative Changes: Clouding of Consciousness, Drowsiness, Sopor, and Coma.
o   Qualitative Changes: Somnolence (excessive daytime sleepiness), Twilight states and Automatisms, Fugue and Dissociation, Stupor.
4.       Disorders of Attention and Concentration.
5.       Disorders of Orientation.
6.       Volitional Disturbances: Lesions of mid-brain where centres of biological drives are located cause volitional disturbances by reducing drives.
7.       Disorders of Motor Activity:
o   Disturbances in the level of activity: Hyperactivity, Retardation.
o   Qualitative Disturbances: Disturbances of movement, Disturbances of posture and expression, Disturbances of motor speech.
