3. Sedative and Hypnotics

Example: Bebzodiazepines (Diazepam, Chlordiazepoxide, etc.), Diphenylmethanes (hydroxyzine), Propanediols (Meprobamate), Barbiturates, Nonbarbiturates (Bromide, Glutethimide, Methaquolone).

Pleasurable Effects: Pleasant, Warm and drowsy feelings, Relaxation, Increased sexual libido, Mild Euphoria.

Toxic and Adverse Effects: Slurred speech, In-coordination, Unsteady gait, Nystagmus, Impaired attention, Stupor and coma.

Withdrawal Symptoms: Sweating, High pulse rate, Tremors, Insomnia, Nausea, Vomiting, Illusions, Hallucinations, Agitation, Anxiety, Seizures
