Disability Certification - 1

Introduction

According to various estimates, about 5-10% of world's population is affected by one or more of the disabilities.

Any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being resulting from an impairment is a disability. Impairment can be structural or functional loss or abnormality which leads to disability and handicap. To be considered disabled, a person should not be able to perform day-to-day activities considered normal for his age, sex or physique.

A disabled person needs social, economic, psychological and emotional support. Recent trend indicates that mental disabilities are increasing.

The Persons With Disabilities Acts 1995:

Blindness, Low vision, Loco-motor disability, Hearing impairment, Leprosy cured, Mental retardation and Mental illness are the disabilities described under this Act.
