12 Steps of Recovery

TWELVE STEPS OF RECOVERY

Twelve steps are the basic steps which can help addicts to recover from the addiction.  It is found by Dr. Bob and Bill.  These are the backbone of the Alcohol Anonymous groups.

1.  We admitted we are powerless over substances abuse that our lines had become unmanageable:

The first step of the recovery is to admit ourselves that I am an unmanageable person.  My life became unmanageable because of my bad habits.  Bad habit means mainly addiction only.  I am powerless over substance abuse all the time

Action: - In what are all the areas my life have become unmanageable.  Make a short list of it.

2.      Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity:

In the second step we are coming to know that as we are helpless in our life itself we are seeking for some help.  A power greater than ourselves is there to help us.  This belief leads us to think positively.  That help can lead back us to the normal stage.
Those who are ready to help whether it may be our family or some good friends can be great help.  So the supreme power can help us through our dear ones.

Action: -
Who all are ready to help us in our life?
Write down the name of the person who is helping you most.

3.      Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him:

We should make a decision to turn to the Lord and knowing the plans of the Gods about ourselves.  Same time our life can give to Gods under his care and love.  Because we already understood that the God only can help us and lead us to the positivism.

Action:-
Are you thinking that we have understood the God? Then what is his plan about me?

4.      Made a fearless and moral inventory of ourselves:

The fourth step says to have a counter check about ourselves.  Have an inner checkup about our own strengths and values.  Try to find our own moral values and good qualities and abilities.  By doing this we will be able to understand about our own strengths and goodness.  That will make us to have a positive think as well as motivate us to identify that we are also a good human being.

Action:-
Make a list of our personal strengths, talents and skills.

5.      Admitted to God, to us, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs:

Regarding an addict he won’t be feeling to display thee exact nature of their wrongs because of guilty or shame. In fact he has to open up to God and to others about his   real problems.

Action:-
Make a short list about the persons which we had harmed and about our wrongs.

6.      Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character:

In the sixth step says about receiving the God to our life so that we will be able to find out our defects and failures.
As we are aware of our defects God is ready to help us all the time. But are willingness is an important aspect for the change. To have a change is an unavoidable factor in recovery so humbly we are waiting for help from god and others to remove our problems.

Action:-
Counter check and make up the mind to receive help from help from higher power.

7.       Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings:

It is an important thing to ask for the help. Some people may be thinking that why god cannot understand my problems and help me. But willingness to have a change and ready to ask for the help will lead as to the recovery.

Action:-
Are we ready to ask god for help?

8.      Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all:

When we decided to change ourselves with the help of God, to have change we can make a list the people who we have harmed. Not only doing that should ask pardon to them also.

Action: - Make the list of the people whom we have to make amends.

9.      Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others:

Make our mind ready to do the amends to others.  Instead of telling sorry doing is important.

Action:- Start doing the amends.

10.   Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it:

Though we had the personal evaluation of our faults, we need to do it in regular basis.

Action: - Are we ready to have a regular check up about our mistakes

11.    Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for the knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out:

Still, after following the above steps we have to keep on praying to the Lord for the help to be in sobriety.

Action: - Take a decision that we will be continuing in the sobriety.

12.    Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to all addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs:

Practicing the steps is an important one.

Action:- Made a decision to follow the above steps and be stable in that.
